The Hadejia ( Hausa : kogin Haɗeja ) is a river in northern Nigeria and a tributary of the Komadugu Yobe .
course
The river arises from the confluence of the Kano and the Challawa , 15 km south of the city of Kano. It first describes a semicircle with a diameter of about 40 km to the south and then flows in a north-easterly direction towards Lake Nguru and the Hadejia-Nguru wetlands , where it gets lost. The cities of Hadejia and Nguru are on the banks of the river.
Hydrometry
The flow rate of the Hadejia was measured in m³ / s in Wudil, shortly after the confluence of the Kano and Challawa (read from the diagram).
Evaporation in the area through which the Hadejia flows is very high. Due to this and the low gradient, the outflow in l / (s * km²) is only a quarter.
ecology
Its source rivers are dammed for irrigation purposes by the Challawa Gorge dam and in the Tiga reservoir . The damming of the Hadejia for irrigation led to a reduction in the amount of water in the Hadejia-Nguru wetlands, which the Hadejia forms together with Nguru Lake. 80 percent of the river is controlled by the Tiga and Challawa Gorge dams.
