Port at the Bäumle
The port at Bäumle in the municipalities of Bregenz and Lochau ( Vorarlberg , Austria ) has always been the maritime transshipment point for the surrounding municipalities towards Lake Constance . Today only a few remains of this harbor are left. There has been a well-developed marina again since 1976.
location
The former Lände and Hafen am Bäumle is located at the northwestern end of the municipality of Lochau at about 415 m above sea level. A. Adjacent to the north and west is the municipality of Hörbranz . To the west, the Ruggbach forms the border with Hörbranz. Between Lake Constance and the municipality of Lochau, there is a long, narrow strip that belongs to the municipality of Bregenz.
history
In 1363 a port in Lochau is mentioned for the first time (landing site at the See's Haupt). This landing site was operated by the former Bregenz citizen Frikk Beimli , from which the later names of the port Beimle , Bämle , Bemle , Bömle , Pömple and Bäumle should be derived. Originally, the port at Bäumle in Lochau was a natural harbor (bay), which was formed by headlands of the floodplain of the Ruggbach and the Dorfbach (Lochauer Bach). Wood and wood products, vines and wine were loaded here. Over the centuries there have been warehouses, a state salt store, lime kilns, coal kilns and a kk iron smelter in the area of the port. The relevant institutions are partly due to the remaining field names can be assigned. The port was more in competition with the port in Lindau than with Bregenz. The port of Bregenz was of secondary importance for a long time. In particular, the port was used for the import and export of products for the communities of Lochau , Hohenweiler , Hörbranz , Möggers (with Eichenberg ) and Weiler in Allgäu . Archduke Ferdinand issued his own ordinance on customs and the customs office at the port at Bäumle . In 1601, the customs were regulated by Emperor Rudolf II . elevated.
In 1655, the St. Nikolai or Holz- und Schiffsleutbruderschaft is founded in Bregenz . The boat trip on the Bäumle joins this. In the course of the Austrian War of Succession (1740 to 1748), the facilities at the Bäumle port were also severely destroyed. The trade and shipping on the Bäumle did not recover from this destruction. Due to other incidents, the ship landing had to be repaired again and again at high costs. The trading center moved further and further to Bregenz. 1764 the timber and board trade, from 1768 also the salt, wine and goods warehouse. On 9/10 August 1796 a skirmish took place at Bäumle in the course of the French coalition wars. With the sale of state institutions to private individuals in 1820, e.g. B. the customs house, guard house, the Kohlbrennerhaus, the Flötzer- and Schiffshütte and the Kohlbrenner- and Rebsteckplatz, the loss of reputation of this port became more and more apparent. In 1827 the k. k. Iron smelter (now: Deuring area ) broken down.
In 1831/1832 the road was moved from Klausberg to the shores of Lake Constance, where it still runs today. This road from Lochau to Bregenz was then largely completed by 1836 and then in 1846/1847 this road led from the Unoth (today Restaurant Klause) near Langen-Stein ( small memorial Langer Stein ) to Unterhochsteg to the Lindau lordship and thus the port at the Bäumle better connected to the road network. The previous road led from Lindau via Lochau-Dorf. The traffic situation was then significantly changed with the completion of the Lindau – Bludenz railway line in 1872. The port at Bäumle was still honored in 1887 when the saloon steamship Kaiserin Elisabeth (later: Bludenz , 1958) was scrapped from November 1, 1886 to February 12, 1887 ) was assembled and launched. In the area of the Bäumle u. a. from 1891 a branch of the watch factory Ladstädter u. Cie operated from Innsbruck and from 1911 the machine factory and foundry Oberhänsli & Cie (later Bayrische Leichtmetallwerke , then Diem-Werke ), which produced crude oil engines according to its own patent, existed here. In 1976 the now heavily silted up port is dredged on the initiative of the Lochau building authority manager Riedmann and reactivated as a sports port and officially opened on July 25, 1976. The Meersburg motor ferry landed here in 1977 and has served as a club house and restaurant ever since. Today's sports harbor is located in the municipality of Bregenz.
