The waterfront bar is one of the most traditional clubs of Berlin in the Karl-Liebknecht-Straße 11 directly on the Alexanderplatz in Berlin district of Mitte . Until May 2016 the Hafenbar was located at Chausseestrasse 20.

history

The building on Chausseestrasse was built in the early 19th century using a simple design. The use as a dance hall goes back to the 1920s. During the GDR era, the house was initially operated under the name of Clou under the leadership of the trade organization (HO) .

Hafenbar 1967–1989

In 1967 the old concept was thrown overboard. The tour wanted to have a cosmopolitan address that would give the emerging capital of the GDR a corresponding light. A dance hall with a restaurant that underlined the freedom of the seven seas with a maritime ambience: painted portholes , a fishing net under the ceiling, a large illuminated map of the world, a sawfish head and a stuffed alligator . The interior design designed at the time is 90 percent preserved in the 2010s and determines the attractiveness as an event location.

The harbor bar quickly became a crowd puller. Bands like Silbercombo or the Nonchevtrio provided entertainment. In the latter group, Georgi Joro Gogow , later known for his violin at Citys Am Fenster , was also enthusiastic . Many well-known entertainers of the time such as Heinz Draehn , Jonny Hill , Britt Kersten , Rex Gildo or Rosemarie Ambé performed here both in front of simple GDR citizens and high-ranking personalities. The attractions of that time were also worth a visit: aquariums with exotic fish, a grill bar, unusual cocktails like the “Stiff Seemann” and parties like a “Pirate Festival” or “Sailor's Evenings” attracted host of guests. Work brigades liked to visit the GDR model company, especially during the carnival season.

During this time, the dance hall was also the recording location of the radio broadcast port concert of the voice of the GDR .

Hafenbar 1989–1996

After the political change , Klaus Zagermann, who had already got to know the house as an apprentice at Clou and had been running it as a harbor bar for the HO since 1968 , took over the establishment. A few programmatic experiments followed, which the Hafenbar now also opened to the West and New Berlin public. In addition to striptease , there were parties by the Hammond Inferno and Prinz magazine . The aquariums existing at the time did not survive the redesign.

Harbor bar 1996-2016

The two Partymacher Fabian Böckhoff and Radio1 presenter Stefan Rupp organized in 1996 its first "Voices in aspic" -Schlagerpartys in Berlin Hafenbar. First monthly, then weekly, the two played on Friday in the Hafenbar. The old buzzwords and the old walls seemed to complement each other perfectly. Since 1999 there have also been events organized by other managers, such as the “Ahoi-Sause” on Saturday. Since 2010 there is the "Kaptains Karaoke " with Joe Hatchiban from Mauerpark Karaoke .

Under the leadership of the two operators, the Hafenbar also became known for its unusual media appearances such as the "Political Schlager Memorial Marches" in 1998 and 1999, or Helga, who was named "Toilet Woman of the Year".

Current situation

Due to the demolition of the former seat of the Hafenbar at Chausseestrasse 20, the discotheque moved to its new location at Karl-Liebknecht-Strasse 11 on June 3, 2016. The entire interior and ship furnishings of the Hafenbar were moved to the new club near the Alexanderplatz built within 14 days.

With the move, the management and the owner of the Hafenbar also changed. The former owner Klaus Zagermann sold the Hafenbar after 49 years to the bar manager Petra Schreiber, who had been working in this establishment since 1990, and her son Christopher Schreiber.

The complete concept and the series of events with the “Voices in Aspic” remain unchanged. This makes the Hafenbar the oldest and continuously open discotheque in Berlin (as of June 2016).
