Hagen Bächler

Hagen Bächler (born March 17, 1931 in Leipzig ) is a German art historian .

Life

After attending the Nikolaischule in his hometown of Leipzig, where he graduated from high school in 1950, Hagen Bächler trained as a machine fitter, when he worked briefly at the VEB shipyard in Dresden-Übigau. From 1953 to 1958 he studied art history and philosophy at the Karl Marx University in Leipzig . After completing his studies, he worked at the Technical University in Dresden, first as an assistant, then as a senior assistant at the Institute for Marxism-Leninism at the TH / TU Dresden.

After receiving his doctorate in 1965 under his mentor Irma Emmrich , Hagen Bächler was appointed university lecturer for art theory in 1969. In 1975 he completed his habilitation. From 1980 to 1992 he held a professorship for art theory in Dresden.

Until the beginning of the 1990s, Hagen Bächler was chairman of the editorial board of the Dresdner Hefte , which were published by the cultural academy of the Dresden district. With the change of publication to the Dresdner Geschichtsverein e. V. in 1991 he resigned from this position. Furthermore, he was co-founder and deputy chairman of the research association for the cultural history of the Dresden area.
