geography

course

The Hahnenbach rises at an altitude of about 374  m above sea level. NHN in the district of Mainz-Bingen in the Binger Forest a little west of the weekend area "In der Hasselbach" of the local community Waldalgesheim der Elisabethquelle. The brook runs southwards overall, soon changes into the open corridor and continues on in partly wide arches towards its mouth.

It crosses under the K 38 Waldalgesheim – Wamsroth and then the L 214 Waldalgesheim – Stromberg. Then he passes the Waldalgesheim industrial park to the west. Between this place and Genheim flows from the east, the only inconsistent water-bearing brook Brückelchen . It touches Genheim on the eastern edge of the village under the wooded Galgenberg on the left side of the stream .

Then it swings far to the east, runs through the middle of Waldlaubersheim and immediately afterwards crosses under the A 61 that starts there for its ascent to the Hunsrück . On the last part of this arch it touches a large forest area in the east and flows around its westernmost branch, Schanzenhübel. Now accompanied by the L 236 from Waldlaubersheim to the right, it flows south-east past Windesheim a little to the west, finally crosses under the Hunsrückquerbahn and then the L 242 Windesheim – Guldental, which runs on the left bank of the river, to finally reach 152  m above sea level. NHN flows from the left between the two places into the lower Guldenbach .

The approximately 9.6 km long course of the Hahnenbach ends about 222 meters above sea level below its source, so it has a mean bed gradient of about 23 ‰.
