The Haid is located in the southwest of the city of Freiburg and is divided into the district Haslach-Haid as part of Haslach between rail freight, Opfinger road Besançonallee and Guildford Avenue and the industrial area Haid-West as part of the Sankt Georgen municipality St. Georgen-Nord between Opfinger Straße, Besançonallee, Matsuyamaallee and the Mooswald. Haslach-Haid consists of residential developments around a substation in the north and the Haid-Ost industrial park in the south. Plans for the development of Haslach-Haid have been made since 2016. A residential and commercial building is to be built on a wasteland next to the substation as the new center of the quarter. The city wants to examine whether the citizens' wish to lay the high-voltage lines is feasible. The new center of the quarter should be ready by summer 2021.

In the consciousness of the population, the commercial area is meant when the Haid is mentioned. It was founded in 1970. Originally 115 hectares in size, it has now grown to 200 hectares and is thus the second largest industrial area in Freiburg. Previously, the areas were mainly used for agriculture. At the moment, an expansion by a further 15 hectares along federal highway 3 is in the process of being developed. Mainly medium-sized companies and craft businesses are located in this area. There are around 450 companies and businesses active here, e. B. Haufe-Lexware , Stryker , Freiburger Verkehrs AG , Hüttinger Electronics , Solar-Fabrik , SAG Solar GmbH & Co. KG .

Haid is conveniently located in terms of traffic, with Tiengener Strasse and Matsuyamaallee ( federal road 31 and federal road 3 ) connected to federal freeway 5 via the Freiburg Süd entrance and to the Freiburg Mitte motorway feeder ( federal road 31a ) over Besançonallee . The Freiburger Verkehrs AG (VAG) has its depot and administration in the Haid and connects the quarter to the city with the tram line 3. The terminus at Munzinger Strasse is also served by numerous VAG and Südbadenbus bus routes .
