Hakupu is one of the fourteen villages on the island of Niue , which has been linked to New Zealand by an association agreement since 1974 . At the March 2017 census, Hakupu had 220 residents. Hakupu is located in the historic Tafiti tribal area in the south of the island. To the northeast of the village there is a large forest area, some of which belongs to Hakupu. At more than 48 square kilometers, Hakupu has the largest area of ​​all fourteen Niues villages.

location

Hakupu is located in the southeast of the island. It is bordered by Liku in the northeast and Vaiea in the southwest . To the west, Hakupu is bordered by Avatele , Alofi, and Tamakautoga . The four parishes meet at one point.

history

There is a memorial in Hakupu that commemorates the men from Hakupu who fought for New Zealand in the First and Second World Wars and in the Konfrontasi .
