Halina Auderska

Halina Auderska (* 3. July 1904 in Odessa , † 21st February 2000 in Warsaw ) was a Polish novelist , playwright , radio playwright , publicist , Lexikografin and politician .

Life

Auderska was first taught at home and attended the Polish grammar school in Odessa from 1917 to 1918. In 1920 she and her family moved to Warsaw , where she graduated from middle school in 1923. In the following years she worked as a teacher until the outbreak of World War II . She also studied Polish studies (diploma 1931) and pedagogy (diploma 1937) at the University of Warsaw . She made her debut as a prose writer in 1928 with the short story Zemsta , which appeared in Radio magazine. From 1930 to 1939 she published reports and feature articles in Kurier Warszawski . She was also an advisor to the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Public Education ( Ministerstwo Wyznań Religijnych i Oświecenia Publicznego ).

After the outbreak of World War II, she worked as a teacher in the underground and gave private lessons. In addition, she became a member of the Polish Home Army , in which she took part in the organization of Operation "N" from 1942 to 1944. She was a member of the central editorial team that printed anti-fascist writings in German . Together with Sławomir Dunin-Borkowski , she edited the publication Die Ostwache from November 1942 to January 1943 and edited the Polish-language publication Die Zukunft für Volks- und Stammdeutsche from December 1942 to March 1944 . For this she was awarded the Silver Cross of Merit with Swords in July 1944 . During the Warsaw Uprising she worked as a war correspondent . With Sławomir Dunin-Borkowski she edited the newspaper Warszawa walczy , in which she published reports. For her work in the Warsaw Uprising she was awarded the Cross of Valor ( Krzyż Waleczny ) in 1959 and the Warsaw Uprising Cross ( Warszawski Krzyż Powstańczy ) in 1983 . After the suppression of the uprising, she stayed in Lubcza in the powiat Jędrzejowski until March 1954 . In April 1945 she went to Krakow , where she led Russian courses for teachers and worked on a Russian-Polish dictionary with Witold Doroszewski . She also became a member of the Union of Polish Writers .

In January 1946 she returned to Warsaw and worked for the Trzaska, Evert i Michalski publishing house until 1950. As envoy for the Ministry of Education, she took part in the organization of an aid campaign for Polish children in London in the spring of 1946 . From 1950 to 1969 she was the coordinating editor and later deputy editor-in-chief and editor-in-chief of the eleven-volume Słownik języka polskiego . She also edited the Mały słownik języka polskiego with Stanisław Skorupka . During this time she wrote plays and radio plays. From 1956 to 1959 she was an editorial member of the monthly Dialog . She joined the Polish PEN Club in 1957. From 1960 to 1968 she was the deputy chairwoman and from 1968 to 1972 chairwoman of the Warsaw Association of Polish Writers and until 1978 deputy chairwoman of the general association.

In 1980 she was elected as a non-party member of the Sejm and re-elected in 1985. She was a member of the Presidium of the Popular Front Jedności Narodu . In 1982 she was a member of the founding commission of the Patriotyczny Ruch Odrodzenia Narodowego (PRON) and from 1983 a member of the Executive Committee of the State Council of PRON. From 1983 to 1986 she took over the chairmanship of the newly founded Association of Polish Writers.

She died in Warsaw in 2000.
