architecture

In terms of construction, it is a two-tier system with two 58 m long, structurally and functionally distinctive prestressed concrete girders as a two-hinged frame and - each positioned 2.5 m apart - suspended prestressed concrete beams in the lower part and pre-stressed concrete beams in the higher part. Lay-on prestressed concrete slabs (5 × 0.5 × 0.05 m) take up the roofing (vapor barrier, thermal insulation, roofing felt, pearl gravel fill). The zone between the laid and suspended roof structure is separated from each other by a circumferential ribbon of glass, which creates the impression of floating surfaces.

The two main girders stand on concrete driven piles. The main pool rests on 64 in-situ concrete piles . The subsequent components are designed as conventionally constructed reinforced concrete and z. T. blinded or disguised. The two-part swimming pool ceiling is suspended from the prestressed concrete girders. This construction makes it possible, on the one hand, to keep the lower structure - apart from the narrow steel round supports inside in front of the window level - free of supports and to accommodate the 10-m diving tower under the 12.8 m high rise in the roof. In addition, this impressive construction element shapes the external and internal appearance of the city pool and enables generous insights and views.

Basins and barefoot passages are tiled, boot passages are covered with stoneware tiles. The foyer with adjoining corridors and the stairs to the upper floor ( grandstand , sauna , cafeteria ) are covered with artificial stone slabs. The checkout counter was renewed. Direct access to the eight-tier grandstand is via a corridor on the first floor, from which the cleaning, medical and warm air baths can also be reached. The large pool is available as a 6-lane pool with dimensions of 25 × 16.66 m and a water depth of 5 m under the diving platform with platforms 3, 5, 7.5 and 10 m high as well as two 1 m and 3 m diving boards .

The pool is accompanied on its north side by an eight-tier grandstand for 320 spectators with a heated bench that can be partially switched off. An additional mobile grandstand can be set up on the opposite side. The smaller teaching pool (warm bathing pool ) measures 16.55 × 8 m and has a lifting floor for a variable water depth of 0.3 to 1.8 m. The access for school and evening club swimming is possible via a separate entrance directly from the parking lot and does not have to be through the entrance hall.

The access corridor on the upper floor and the grandstand are also connected via an external staircase. In addition, the space program includes u. a. Cleaning baths, medicinal baths, warm air baths and a sauna. Heating and filter technology, a laundry and staff rooms are located in the basement. The heat is supplied by two boilers with 2.5 Gcal / h for the indoor swimming pool, another boiler with 1.25 Gcal / h is kept for the neighboring school. The circulation time of the water in the swimmer's pool takes place within three hours, that of the teaching pool in one hour. Administration and club rooms are located on the ground floor. The machinist's apartment / caretaker's apartment is located on an atrium-like courtyard east of the indoor pool.

It is an important architectural monument of the city of Mönchengladbach and rightly claims the protection of § 2 DSchG NRW . The object is important for human history and for cities and settlements. There are scientific, architectural, local, social and / or urban planning / urban development reasons for its preservation and use.
