The Halle madrigalists are a semi-professional ensemble whose focus is the cultivation of a cappella singing from several centuries. Since it was founded, the ensemble has dedicated itself to contemporary choral music in a special way .

history

Since Siegfried Bimberg († 2008) founded the Chamber Choir in 1963 , the singers of the Halle Madrigalists have been meeting for rehearsals in the city of Saale. Its members, who predominantly practice music-related professions such as music teachers, musicologists or choir directors, come from Saxony-Anhalt or the nearby Saxony and Thuringia. The different vocal training of the ensemble members unites them into a semi-professional ensemble.

In 1973 the ensemble was awarded the Handel Prize of the Halle district .

Under the direction of Andreas Göpfert (director 1980–1999), the Halle madrigalists won the 1995 Grand Prix of the international choir competition in Tolosa . This was the culmination of a number of awards, television and radio productions and CD recordings at home and abroad.

From 1999 to 2003 the choir was directed by Helko Siede (1969–2008). The first performance of the work “The Yellow Sound” by Alfred Schnittke (director: Eberhard Kloke ) at the EXPO 2000 falls into his creative phase .

Under Sebastian Reim, the choir has given concerts at numerous music festivals, including a. the gallery concerts in the Dresden Semperoper , the MDR Music Summer, the Sandstein und Musik Festival, the Rheingau Music Festival , Leipzig Bach Festival or the Hildebrandt Days in Naumburg.

Working together

The successful cooperation u. a. With the Handel Festival Orchestra Halle , the Virtuosi Saxoniae Dresden or the Bläser-Collegium Leipzig, the choir also regularly takes the choir into the world of instrumental music. Under conductors such as Ludwig Güttler and Howard Arman , the choir also gives regular concerts in the Dresden Frauenkirche and the Berlin Philharmonic.

Reim works as a choir conductor, tenor soloist, harpsichordist and organist. He received early musical education as a member of the Dresden Kreuzchor. Before studying in Leipzig, he graduated from church music (A) and singing. He began his concert activities while still studying in Leipzig. Collaborations followed with the MDR Symphony Orchestra , the Philharmonic State Orchestra Halle , the Bach Collegium Munich and the Salzburg Bach Choir . Sebastian Reim sang as oratorio with the Dresden Kreuzchor , the Thomanerchor Leipzig , the University and College Choirs Leipzig, Dresden, Weimar and Görlitz, the Bach Association Düsseldorf, the Bach Choir Kassel and the Poznan Nightingales (Poland). With the MDR-Rundfunkchor Leipzig , Sebastian Reim also undertook choral productions. He was appointed to the jury for the 2006/2007 composition competition.
