Halo-halo (from Tagalog mishmash , mix ) is a common dessert in Filipino cuisine .

ingredients

It consists of the basic ingredients water ice ( shave ice ), condensed milk , mung beans , haricot beans , chickpeas , coconut strips and plantains , which are supplemented with various other ingredients depending on the region and taste.

Examples of other ingredients are gelatine cubes (or agar ), jackfruit , star apple (cainito), tapioca , sago , nata de coco , ube (purple yam), sweet potatoes and sweetcorn .

Ice cream is also used in newer recipes .

Halo-halo is now the best-selling product from the Filipino fast food chain Chowking .

The Black Eyed Peas mention Halo-halo in their song Mare from their fifth studio album The END ( "let me know what it takes to get close and mix like halo-halo" ).
