Halothamnus auriculus is a species of the genus Halothamnus inthe foxtail family ( Amaranthaceae ).
description
Vegetative characteristics
Halothamnus auriculus grows as a subshrub and reaches heights of up to 90 centimeters. The branches have an olive-gray or blue-green, lightly striped bark . The flat and somewhat fleshy foliage leaves are variable in shape (lanceolate, triangular, egg-shaped, heart-shaped or rounded) up to 68 mm long and 2.5 to 45 mm wide, all around with a clear skin edge, often encompassing half a stem at the base, the lower ones often at the Stems descending, the upper ones often eyed.
Generative characteristics
The bracts are similar to the foliage leaves, the bracts are upright, scale-shaped, all around skin-margined and shorter than the 3.4 to 4.7 mm long flowers. The scars are trimmed at the top. The winged fruit reaches 12-18 mm in diameter, its wings set in or above the center. The fruit tube is broadly vascularized and has deep, comma or line-shaped pits at the base.
The subspecies Halothamnus auriculus subsp. acutifolius is distinguished by its narrower (only 2.5 to 9 mm wide) leaves that do not encompass stems and that hardly run down, as well as by longer stigmas.
Occurrence
The range of Halothamnus auriculus includes northern Iran , Pakistan ( Baluchistan ), Afghanistan , southern Turkmenistan , Tajikistan , Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan . Halothamnus auriculus grows in semi-deserts and dry trees on loamy-gravelly, often salty or gypsum-containing soils at altitudes of up to 2550 meters.
Systematics
This species was introduced by Alfred Moquin-Tandon in 1834 and 1840 under the name Salsola auricula Moq. first published . It was founded in 1981 by Victor Petrovič Botschantzev under the name Halothamnus auriculus (Moq.) Botsch. in the genus Halothamnus provided
From halothamnus auriculus there are two subspecies:
- Halothamnus auriculus (Moq.) Botsch. subsp. auriculus (Syn .: Salsola auricula Moq. , Caroxylon auriculum (Moq.) Moq. , Aellenia auricula (Moq.) Ulbr. , Salsola moquiniana Jaub. & Spach , Halothamnus moquinianus (Jaub. & Spach) Botsch. )
- Halothamnus auriculus subsp. acutifolius (Moq.) Kothe-Heinr. (Syn .: Salsola auricula Moq. Ss. Acutifolia Moq. , Salsola decurrens Jaub. & Spach , Caroxylon acutifolium (Moq.) Moq. Nom. Illeg., Salsola acutifolia (Moq.) Bunge nom. Illeg., Halothamnus acutifolius (Moq .) Message nom. Illeg.)
Usage and ingredients
Halothamnus auriculus is considered a good forage plant and is grown on recultivated pastures. The plants accumulate boron in their leaves . The following ingredients were detected in phytochemical examinations of the whole plant: quercetin-3-glucoside, 8-C-glucopyranosyl- apigenin , 5,6-dihydroxy-3 ', 4', 7-trimethoxy- flavone , 4 ', 5,7- Trihydroxy-3 ', 6-dimethoxy-flavone, quercetin-3', 4'-dimethyl ether, allantoic acid , allantoin , oleanolic acid , β-sitosterol , β-sitosterol-3-O-β-D-glucopyranoside and lupeol .
