The Mainz-Laubenheim stop is the train station in the Laubenheim district of the Rhineland-Palatinate state capital Mainz , on the western edge of the Rhine-Main area . Since June 2018, Laubenheim has been a stop on the half-hourly S-Bahn line S6 of the S-Bahn RheinNeckar . The station is of DB Station & Service of the station category assigned. 5

history

The breakpoint Mainz-Laubenheim was common with the first track section ( Mainz - Oppenheim that of Mainz) Worms , Frankenthal and Ludwigshafen by Mannheim leading railway line Mainz-Mannheim taken on March 23, 1853 officially in operation.

In 1980 the only level crossing and road underpass that still exists today was built. Five years later, the former station building was converted into a children, youth and cultural center .

In 2014, as part of the 2nd expansion stage of the Rhein-Neckar S-Bahn and the integration of the Mainz – Ludwigshafen line into the S-Bahn network, the modernization of the Laubenheim stop began. The two outer platforms were raised to the usual height of 76 centimeters for the vehicles used by the RheinNeckar S-Bahn and the entrances were made completely barrier-free . Since then, it has been possible for wheelchair users and prams to board the S-Bahn without any problems.

For the regular summer timetable change on June 10, 2018, the new line S 6 of the S-Bahn RheinNeckar went into operation. This line replaced the previously for suburban forward operation circulating regional train -line RB 44th

Reception building

The historic station building was erected along with the route in 1852 in classicist forms, largely without any structural decoration. At that time it cost just under 5,700 guilders . The building was eaves, in the middle two-story and three-axis and had a single-story extension on each side. The extensions were added later. The southern extension was an open gallery that later accommodated the platform barrier.

A corridor ran through the middle of the ground floor from the street to the platform , on which the counters for ticket sales and - on the platform side - for baggage handling opened. There was also a waiting room and an office for the station master . His apartment was on the first floor.

Since 1962 there has been a noticeable reduction in the rail-side offer in Laubenheim. In that year the express and general cargo traffic was given up, in 1978 the station building was closed to travelers. The city took over the building and after a renovation set up a youth center here. The southern wing was also torn down and the three doors to the platform walled up. Inside, non-load-bearing walls were removed, others were broken, tiled floors were laid and ceilings were suspended.
