Frankenthal Hauptbahnhof is a train station in the city of Frankenthal . There are also the Frankenthal Süd and Flomersheim stops in the city.
location
The station is centrally located in the city center of Frankenthal on the Mainz – Worms – Ludwigshafen railway line ; it is the terminus of the connecting line between Freinsheim and Frankenthal. There is a bakery , a kiosk and a range of magazines in the station .
history
In November 1853 a track was opened from the Palatinate Ludwig Railway to the Hessian border near Frankenthal. The Frankenthal station was thus initially created as a temporary measure. As early as 1860, the line between Worms and Ludwigshafen am Rhein was expanded to double tracks. The official inauguration of Frankenthal Central Station finally took place on November 15, 1870. Since October 15, 1877, the Freinsheim – Frankenthal connecting line has been flowing into the station. In 1910 the station, previously named Frankenthal , was renamed Frankenthal Bf .
From 1890 to 1939 the meter-gauge Palatinate Railway departed in front of the station in the direction of Großkarlbach (1891 to 1939) and towards Ludwigshafen (1890 to 1933). South of the station there was also a connection between the local railway and the standard gauge state railway for reloading the goods.
At the end of 2015, the station was upgraded from station category 4 to category 3.
The renovation of the main train station began in 2014. The platforms 1 and 2 were cm to a height of 76, the platform 3a to a height of 55 cm placed, the platform furniture has been renewed, two elevators for pedestrian underpass were newly built and the station building and Reisezentrum created. During the construction work, there were disputes between Deutsche Bahn and the city of Frankenthal over the width of the platform on track 2. Deutsche Bahn had the width of the platform reduced due to underground cables, which the city administration disliked.
For the regular summer timetable change on June 10, 2018, the new line S 6 of the S-Bahn RheinNeckar went into operation. This line replaced the previously for suburban forward operation circulating regional train -line RB 44th
architecture
The first station building, which was opened in 1870, with its arched windows and clock tower was very similar to the station building of the former Ludwigshafen terminus . After the destruction in World War II , a new 1950s- style building was erected.
passenger traffic
The three platform tracks at Frankenthal Central Station are over 300 m long and 76 cm high , making boarding the trains barrier-free . The station is served by two regional express trains , one regional train and one S-Bahn line of the RheinNeckar S-Bahn .
