The Neukirch (Lausitz) Ost stop is an operating point on the Bautzen – Bad Schandau railway line in the Neukirch / Lausitz municipality in Saxony. Since 2004, the former station has only been served by regional trains on the Dresden - Zittau - Liberec route; freight transport facilities no longer exist.

history

Today's Neukirch (Lausitz) Ost station was created in connection with the construction of the Bautzen – Bad Schandau railway line and was put into operation on September 1, 1877. At this time the station was officially named Ober-Neukirch (from 1888 Oberneukirch (Laus)) . After the villages of Niederneukirch and Oberneukirch had merged into one municipality, the station name also changed on July 1, 1926 to Neukirch (Laus) Ost and in 1934 to Neukirch (Lausitz) Ost .

With the opening of the railway lines from Niederneukirch to Bischofswerda on August 15 and from Oberoderwitz to Eibau on October 15, 1879, the importance of the station increased as it was now part of the continuous connection from Dresden to Zittau. A representative two-and-a-half-storey reception building was used for tourist traffic and housed all the facilities necessary for passenger and baggage handling as well as a train station restaurant. There was also a goods shed with a loading ramp.

Among other things, the products of the mechanical engineering companies and weaving mills located in the area, but also wood, coal and fertilizers were handled. In terms of passenger traffic, the station was also served by the higher-ranking trains on the route. In 1905 the express train 83 Dresden - Reichenberg also stopped in what was then Oberneukirch. In the 1934 summer timetable, the D 219/220 Dresden - Zittau - Dresden stopped in Neukirch Ost. From the end of the 1930s, in addition to normal passenger trains , only express trains ran between Zittau and Dresden , which usually also stopped in Neukirch Ost.

By 1945, the section from Neukirch (Lausitz) West station via Neukirch Ost to Wilthen station had two tracks. After the dismantling of the second main line, the station gained additional importance for the train crossings that were now required on this section, on which the trains on the routes between Bad Schandau and Bautzen and Dresden and Zittau were superimposed. In Neukirch Ost there were a total of five tracks. Tracks 1 and 2 were used as through tracks and tracks 3 to 5 as storage and loading tracks. The loading street was on track 5 . Until 1993 a small locomotive was stationed in Neukirch , for which the station had a small locomotive shed. The track system was modified in the 1980s. Before 1990, the W3 guard station at the Westkopf was taken out of service. What remained was the dispatcher interlocking B2 located in the reception building and the guard interlocking W1 at the eastern end of the station, both of which were mechanical interlockings of the standard design.

After the fall of the Wall, the Neukirch (Lausitz) Ost station lost its importance due to the decline in freight traffic and the decline in passenger numbers. In 2003 the switch connections to track 2 were expanded and the intermediate platform there demolished. The dispatcher interlocking in the station building was decommissioned in December 2003, since then the guard interlocking W1 has only served as a block post and to operate the barriers of the two level crossings at the east and west end of the station. Since the cessation of passenger traffic on the Bautzen - Bad Schandau route on December 12, 2004, it has only been a stopping point for the two-hourly regional trains and regional express trains to Dresden and Liberec (on weekend days to Tanvald). The existing block was dismantled on November 25, 2006 and all remaining mechanical signals and barriers were dismantled. The old signal box buildings were demolished in 2007, the tracks that were no longer needed in the following year. The reception building is currently unused. In summer 2012 it was sold to a private investor. After another sale in December 2013, the building was put up for sale again in July 2014.

Since 14 December 2014 run instead of regional trains and regional express trains of the DB Regio with the same lines and clock frequency the trilex -lines RB61 and RE2 of the countries train . You can change at the station forecourt to the buses of the regional lines 111 (Wehrsdorf, Sohland - Neukirch - Wilthen - Kirschau), 117 ( Bautzen - Neukirch - Neustadt in Saxony - Sebnitz) and 181 (Bischofswerda - Neukirch - Oppach). Both the train and bus connections are integrated into the Upper Lusatia-Lower Silesia Transport Association (ZVON).

platform

The only remaining platform of the station has a usable length of 308 m and a height of 34 cm.
