Haltschyn ( Ukrainian Гальчин ; Russian Гальчин Galtschin ) is a village in the south of the Ukrainian Oblast Zhytomyr with about 2,300 inhabitants (2001).
The village, first mentioned in writing in 1683, is the only place in the 19.414 km² district council of the same name in the center of Andruschiwka Rajon .
Haltschyn lies at the confluence of the 33 km long Pustocha ( Пустоха ) in the Hujwa ( Гуйва ), a 97 km long tributary of the Teteriw . It borders in the northeast on the Rajonzentrum Andruschiwka and the Oblastzentrum Zhytomyr lies 45 km northwest of the village.
In 2001, the Andrushivka Astronomical Observatory "July Morning" started its work in Haltschyn . An asteroid discovered by the observatory in 2007 was named in honor of the village (161962) Galchyn .
