Hamamlı (formerly Ayandon ) is a village in the district of Türkeli in the Turkish province of Sinop . The place used to be a mahall of the district town. Hamamlı is located about 103 km southwest of the provincial capital Sinop and three km south of Türkeli. According to the last census, Hamamlı had 116 inhabitants (as of December 2010). In the summer months, the population rises to around 500, as many family members work abroad and spend their summer holidays in their home village.
The village used to be named after St. Anton and the entire region from Kastamonu to Sinop was named like the village Ayandon (Hagia Antonius). The center of the Ayandon region later became a village.
Today the village of Düzler borders in the north, the village Yeşiloba in the east, the village Göverkit in the west and Karagöl and the Salardağı forests in the south. The village consists of the districts Merkez , Halıcı , Çayırlar and Gölcüvez , which is located directly on the edge of the forest. The place was renamed Hamamlı after the founding of the Republic of Turkey in 1923, which means something like “The village with a hammam ”, as the oldest hammam is located in this village within a radius of about 100 km. However, the hamam has long since fallen into ruin or a mosque was partly built on the old foundation.
The sources of income are traditionally the cultivation of hazelnuts, fruit and corn as well as occasional cattle breeding. The main source of income for the population is money transfers from family members from abroad.
