Hamani Saliah

Hamani Saliah (* 1964 in Méhana ; † November 16, 2008 in Niamey ) was a Nigerien officer .

Life

Hamani Saliah attended elementary school in his native Méhana and middle school in the city of Téra . He joined the Niger armed forces in 1983 . After military training in Senegal and the United States , he became leader of a platoon in 1992 and deputy commander of a company in 1995 . From 1997 he held the rank of captain .

Saliah was one of 14 officers on the Council of National Reconciliation , a military junta that ruled Niger from April to December 1999. Djibrilla Hima Hamidou , the spokesman for the Council of National Reconciliation, was a longtime friend of his. After power was handed over to a civilian government, Saliah continued his military career. From 2006, he commanded the 12th Joint Battalion , which controlled the strategically important military facilities in the capital Niamey . At last he had the rank of lieutenant colonel .

Hamani Saliah died in Niamey National Hospital in 2008 and was buried in his hometown of Hamdallaye .
