The Hamerský Špičák , also Ostrý (German Hammer Spitzberg ; 452 m) is a mountain in the Ralská pahorkatina in northern Bohemia ( Czech Republic ). Since 1996 the mountain in its entirety, together with the neighboring Děvín, has been a natural monument of Děvín, Ostrý a Schachtstein under nature protection.
Location and surroundings
Hamerský Špičák is located about four kilometers east of the town of Stráž pod Ralskem ( Wartenberg ), on the edge of a largely uninhabited rocky forest landscape. Immediately at the foot is the small community Hamr na Jezeře ( Hammer am See ) with the Hammer Lake . The mountain is separated from the neighboring, geologically related Děvín by a deep saddle. From 1947 to 1991 the mountain was in the restricted area of the Ralsko military training area . The boundary of the exercise area ran directly at the northern foot of the mountain.
On the summit is the distinctive moat of a medieval fortification.
geology
The Hamerský Špičák, like the Děvín, consists of very soft ashlar sandstones from the chalk , while the summit ridge of the mountain is formed by a basalt duct . The iron ores in the contact area between the basalt and the sandstone were the subject of mining in Hamr na Jezeře. Remaining holes in the pits are still visible today on the east side of the mountain and on the summit.
view
A view from the summit is hardly possible due to the large amount of forest.
Paths to the summit
There are no marked hiking trails leading to Hamerský Špičák. From the saddle to the neighboring Děvín you can climb along an unmarked path from the east.
