Location of Hamr na Jezeře in the Česká Lípa district

Hamr na Jezeře (German Hammer am See ) is a municipality in the Okres Česká Lípa in the Liberec region in the north of the Czech Republic , south of the Lusatian Mountains . It is located in the valley of the Ploučnice (Polzen) river two kilometers east of Stráž pod Ralskem (Wartenberg) .

history

In the 16th century the settlement was founded near an iron hammer . In order to provide the necessary process water for the hammer , a reservoir was created, which is known today as the Hammersee . The iron ores processed there were once mined at the nearby Děvín (Dewin) and Hamerský Špičák (Hammer Spitzberg) peaks and in the wider area . From the middle of the 19th century, Hammer formed a municipality in the judicial district of Niemes or in the Bohemian Leipa district .

Before 1945 the place was known as a health resort and was called Bad Hammer am See . From 1963 the place was in the uranium mining area of Stráž pod Ralskem. This mining stopped in 1996. For safety reasons, the lake had to be drained during this time; the place lost its tourist importance. In 1994/95 the dam was rehabilitated and the lake dammed again.

Community structure

The community Hamr na Jezeře consists of the districts Břevniště (Merzdorf) , Hamr na Jezeře (hammer on the lake) and Útěchovice (Audishorn) . Basic settlement units are Břevniště, Hamr na Jezeře, Hutník and Útěchovice.

The municipality is divided into the cadastral districts of Břevniště pod Ralskem and Hamr na Jezeře.
