Mařenice (German Großmergthal ) is a municipality of the Okres Česká Lípa in the Liberec region in the north of the Czech Republic .
geography
Geographical location
Mařenice is located in the Lusatian Mountains in the valley of the Svitávka (Zwittebach) river, which rises in the Zittau Mountains . The place has several hiking trails to Germany, e.g. B. in the district Myslivny (Jägerdörfel) and at Dolní Světlá (Niederlichtenwalde). The crossings are only for pedestrians and cyclists to pass.
Community structure
The municipality of Mařenice consists of the districts Dolní Světlá (Nieder Lichtenwalde) , Horní Světlá (Ober Lichtenwalde) , Mařenice (Großmergthal) and Mařeničky (Kleinmergthal) , which also form cadastral districts. Basic settlement units are Dolní Světlá, Horní Světlá, Mařenice, Mařeničky and Myslivny (Jägerdörfel) .

history
The place was first mentioned in a document in 1372.
The parish church of St. Mary Magdalene and the rectory were built between 1714 and 1716 according to plans by Octavio Broggio . The church is surrounded by a cloister with a chapel. There are baroque tombstones worth seeing. On the road bridge over the Svitávka brook there is a three-part group of statues depicting St. Wenceslas, the crucified Jesus and St. Nepomuk pose.

Statue group
In the district of Mařeničky (Kleinmergthal) stands the largest beech tree in Northern Bohemia with a height of 30 m and a trunk circumference of 5.40 m.
