Slunečná ( German  Sonneberg ) is a municipality of the Okres Česká Lípa in the Liberec region in the north of the Czech Republic and is located about five kilometers southwest of Nový Bor (Haida) and two and a half kilometers west of Skalice (Langenau) on the southwest slope of a striking wooded mountain ridge of whose peaks the Kameník (Steinberg, Wolfsberg) is the highest.

history

The first entries of the place are in documents from 1597. However, the village itself was only mentioned in 1606. A part of the place that belonged to Horní Libchava was sold in 1611 by Jan von Wartemberg to Dorota Berka, who then sold it to Heinrich Penzig von Penzig . However, his property was confiscated after the battle on White Mountain; in 1623 he was acquired by the later Grand Prior of the Order of Malta, Wilhelm Wratislaw von Mitrowitz . The other part, which belonged to the Neuschloss manor , was confiscated from Mr. Johannes von Wartenberg and sold to Albrecht von Waldstein . His daughter married Rudolf Kaunitz in 1654; this sex owned this part of the community until the 20th century.

In 1847 the place had almost 100 houses with conscription numbers, with Sonnebenberg forming a municipality in the judicial district of Haida and in the Bohemian Leipa district in the middle of the 19th century . Shortly before the Second World War, 323 residents lived here, including 30 ballers, 7 grinders, 6 belters and 1 glass painter, who refined glass from the works in Skalice (Langenau) and Nový Bor (Haida) in their own workshops .

After the Second World War, the population fell significantly. Today only about 60 people live here; the community has the character of a place mainly used for recreation. After 1960, many recreational objects were built there.

Johann Georg Jirschik and Josef Jirschik played a large part in the development of the community with considerable financial contributions. In 1832 Johann Georg Jirschik bequeathed a sum of money for the construction of the Assumption Church, which was built in the years 1846-1850. Josef Jirschik also contributed a financial contribution to the construction of the school.

The well-known Czech actor Vlastimil Brodský (1920–2002) spent the last years of his life here and was also buried here.
