Okrouhlá (German Schaiba ) is a municipality in the Okres Česká Lípa in the Liberec region in the north of the Czech Republic . It is located on the northern tip of the Bohemian Central Uplands . The neighboring town of Nový Bor (Haida) is only one kilometer away.

history

The place arose during the second colonization at the beginning of the 16th century. The first written mention as "village and forest called Scheibe" comes from the year 1543. Scheibe belonged to the lordship of Neuschloss ; The owners were Anna von Salhausen and then the gentlemen von Wartenberg and Albrecht von Waldstein . Finally the place fell to the Lords of Kaunitz . From an administrative point of view, Schaiba formed a municipality in the judicial district of Haida or in the Bohemian Leipa district from the middle of the 19th century .

The manufacture and processing of glass have become a traditional export item for the town. The entrepreneur Karl Meltzer , owner of the painter's workshop and manufacturer of church windows, erected a curious pseudo-Gothic building in 1893 . It has the shape of a hexagonal object made of sandstone blocks with supporting columns, broken windows and a low roof and served as a model exhibition for his company. The pillars are adorned with allegorical statues, the motifs of which represent industry and economy.
