Life
Hamza Humo went to high school in his hometown. In 1914 he was interned in Komárom in Hungary and drafted into the Austro-Hungarian army in 1915 and worked as a writer and translator in a hospital in Győr . After the war he studied art history in Zagreb , then in Vienna and Belgrade . He then published the magazines Zabavnik and from 1923 to 1931 Gajret and was editor at Politika until the Second World War . During the war he stayed in Cim near Mostar. After the Second World War he was the editor of the newspaper Novo doba (New Era), headed Radio Sarajevo and a picture gallery in Sarajevo.
Works
Humo started out as a poet. Later he turned more to prose and wrote short stories, novels and also dramas in which he described the difficult fate of the Muslim ordinary people in Bosnia with a clear tendency towards idealization. Humo's best-known work is the novel "Trunkener Sommer", which has also been translated into German. In it he describes autobiographical experiences, moods and the tender love of a summer on his father's estate. All of this ends with autumn, the sadness of parting and the hope of a new spring.
