Han Kum-ok (born September 22, 1987 in Pyongyang , North Korea) is a North Korean wrestler . In 2009 she became vice world champion in the weight category up to 51 kg.

Career

Han Kum-ok only started wrestling at the age of 18 in 2005. She belongs to the wrestling team of the Ministry of Commerce in Pyongyang and is trained by Kang Chang-yong. At a height of 1.56 meters, she initially ranked in the weight class up to 51 kg. Since 2012 she started in the weight class up to 55 kg, which is Olympic.

Han Kum-ok was on the international wrestling mat for the first time in 2009 at the Asian Championship in Pattaya. She took second place in the weight class up to 51 kg behind Tatjana Amanchol-Bakatschuk from Kazakhstan. In the same year she also took part in the World Championships in Herning / Denmark. She was also able to convince there. She defeated Oleksandra Kohut , Ukraine, Roksana Zasina, Poland and Natalja Budu, Moldova and reached the final, in which she lost quite clearly against Sofia Mattsson from Sweden (0: 2 rounds, 0: 7 points). But that made her runner-up in her first international year.

In 2010 Han Kum-ok won a bronze medal at the Asian Championships in New Delhi behind Li Hui and Juldiz Eschimowa from Kazakhstan. She could not start at the World Cup in Moscow that year because North Korea did not take part. In 2011 she won a bronze medal again at the Asian Championships in Tashkent. Only Zhao Shasha from China and Dawaasüchiin Otgontsetseg from Mongolia placed in front of her. At the 2011 World Cup in Istanbul, she lost after victories against Natalja Budu and Whitney Conder from the United States to Mareko Shidochi from Japan. Since this did not reach the final, she was eliminated and took 7th place.

In 2012, Han Kum-ok won the qualification for the Olympic Games in London by winning the qualifying tournament in Taiyuan. To do this, she was promoted to the 55 kg weight class. In London, she met Jackeline Rentería Castillo from Colombia in her first fight . In a tough and hard fight, she lost a bit unhappy with 1: 2 rounds, although she was ahead on points with 10: 9. Jackeline Renteria did not make it into the Olympic final, so Han Kum-ok was eliminated and ended up in 10th place.

In April 2013 she won a bronze medal for the third time at the Asian Championships in New Delhi. Her results there were: victory over Um Ji-eun , South Korea, defeat against Yang Senlian , China and victory over Miruyet Dinbajewa, Kazakhstan.
