Career

Jackeline Rentería started judo in Cali at the age of 13 , but switched to wrestling at the age of 14. Since then she has been trained by Victor Capacho. She belongs to a wrestling club in Cali and is a student. At a height of 1.65 meters, her traditional weight class is actually up to 59 kg body weight, but since this is not Olympic, she trains in the Olympic years in the weight class up to 55 kg.

In 2004 she started at an international championship for the first time. She took 3rd place in the Pan American Junior Championship in Maracaibo in the weight class up to 55 kg. Just one year later she became Pan-American champion in the weight class up to 59 kg in Guatemala City and took second place at the same championship in 2006 in Rio de Janeiro behind Yoselin Rojas Urbira from Venezuela. In 2006 she also started at a world championship for the first time. In Guangzhou she defeated Li Chia-Hua from Taiwan, but then lost to Marianna Sastin from Hungary and reached 9th place.

In 2007 Jackeline Rentería won both the Pan-American Championship in San Salvador and the Pan-American Games in Rio de Janeiro. In Rio de Janeiro, she defeated Marcie van Dusen from the United States in the final battle . At the 2007 World Cup in Baku she won three times. In the quarterfinals she was defeated by the outstanding women wrestler of that time Saori Yoshida from Japan and in the consolation round against Olga Smirnova from Kazakhstan, which brought her to 7th place. In 2008 she prepared very intensively for the Olympic Games in Beijing. This preparation bore fruit, because she won an Olympic bronze medal in the weight class up to 55 kg with victories over Marwa Amri, Tunisia and Marcie van Dusen, a defeat in the semi-finals against Xu Li from China and a victory over Maria Ana Paval from Romania.

In 2009 Jackeline Rentería took a break. In 2010 she only took part in the Central American and Caribbean Games in Mayaguez / Puerto Rico and won there in the weight class up to 63 kg in front of Ana Gonzales from Venezuela and Wendy Garcia Patino from Mexico. In 2011 she took part in the World Cup in Istanbul again. Her high point defeat against Geeta from India (0: 2 rounds, 0:11 points) threw her back to 40th place.

In 2012 she again prepared intensively for the Olympic Games in London and won the qualifying tournament in Helsinki and three other tournaments in Europe in the run-up to these games. At the games in London she defeated Han Kum-Ok from North Korea and Lissette Alexandra Antes Castillo from Ecuador. Then she lost in the semifinals to Tonya Verbeek from Canada and defeated Tetjana Lazarewa from Ukraine in the battle for a bronze medal . With that she had won her second Olympic bronze medal.
