These are in detail the districts of Oberhavel , Prignitz , Ostprignitz-Ruppin , Havelland , Potsdam-Mittelmark and Teltow-Fläming as well as the independent city of Brandenburg an der Havel and the state capital Potsdam .
history
From the first foundation to the integration in Berlin
On May 13, 1841, the 7th Provincial Parliament of the Mark Brandenburg asked the king to set up a chamber of commerce based on the model of the chambers in the Rhine Province . The initiative was unsuccessful. Only at the end of the 1880s did plans for the establishment of a chamber of commerce become more concrete. In 1889 the regional council rejected an institution. On December 16, 1890, the Brandenburg wholesale merchant Karl Blell formulated a public memorandum for the establishment of a chamber. However, the regional council refused in 1891 and favored a chamber of commerce in Berlin for the entire administrative region. In 1897 the Chamber of Commerce law was changed. Now the discussion about the establishment of the Chamber began again. The main point of conflict was the question of whether a common chamber in Potsdam or two chambers in Potsdam and Brandenburg would be useful. On April 23, 1898, the ministry approved the formation of a Brandenburg Chamber of Commerce and the Potsdam Chamber of Commerce. The Potsdam Chamber of Commerce was founded for the first time on October 10, 1898.
The chamber district consisted of the city of Potsdam, the city of Spandau and the districts of Osthavelland, Ruppin and Luckenwalde.
The districts of Prenzlau, Templin, Angermünde and Oberbarnim, which had first considered the establishment of a Chamber of Commerce in Angermünde, were added to the district of the Potsdam Chamber by a ministerial resolution of March 19, 1900.
After the expansion of the chamber district, the desire to move the headquarters to central Berlin became stronger. At the general assembly on November 10, 1902, the move to Berlin was decided by 18 votes to 13 with 5 abstentions. On May 25, 1903, the relocation was approved by the Ministry. The chamber was now called the Potsdam Chamber of Commerce, seated in Berlin . A branch remained in Potsdam. In Berlin, the chamber was housed in rented rooms at Dorotheenstrasse 72-74. In 1908 the decision was made to purchase their own building. The house at Klosterstrasse 41 was bought by the Berlin State Insurance Company.
On March 10, 1919, the Minister of Commerce and Industry approved the merger of the Chambers of Commerce in Berlin and Potsdam. Potsdam became a branch of the Berlin Chamber of Commerce and Industry .
In SBZ and GDR
After the end of the Second World War , Germany and the chamber district of the Berlin Chamber of Commerce were divided. While Berlin had a special role due to its four-power status , the area around Berlin had become part of the Soviet Zone . Therefore, on October 24, 1945, the provincial administration issued the ordinance on the formation of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Mark Brandenburg province . This was responsible for the entire province of Brandenburg and from 1947 the state of Brandenburg .
The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Province of Mark Brandenburg was not designed as a democratic self-governing instrument of the economy. The President of the Chamber was appointed by the Provincial Administration. The members of the chamber were provided equally by the administration, the FDGB and the company representatives.
The seat of the chamber was Potsdam. The office was located at Berliner Straße 29, then at Saarmunder Straße 23 and later at Heinrich-Mann-Allee 103. There were also branches in Eberswalde, Brandenburg, Frankfurt (Oder) and Cottbus.
Due to the nationalization and the introduction of the planned economy , the chamber increasingly lost its importance. In 1949, Chamber President Otto Schwarz had to flee to the free West.
In 1953 the chamber was dissolved under this name by resolution of the Council of Ministers of the GDR. The remaining tasks were taken over by the GDR Chamber of Commerce and Industry .
After the turn
On February 15, 1990 (initially on a private basis) it was re-established as the Potsdam Chamber of Commerce and Industry. On March 1, 1990, the GDR government passed the ordinance on the chambers of industry and commerce in the GDR , thereby creating the legal basis. As a result of the reintroduction of the market economy , the number of member companies grew rapidly. At the end of March 1990, 4,379 members were registered. This number grew to 13,000 at the end of 1990 and 36,000 in autumn 1992. The chamber district initially included the Potsdam and Perleberg districts, followed by the Prenzla and Templin districts later.
After 18 years as President of the Chamber, Victor Stimming had to resign in November 2014 after financial irregularities became known. The chamber spoke of a damage of 500,000 to 600,000 euros and announced damage claims.

Initiatives
The training initiative “Do it in Brandenburg” was founded in 2010 by the Potsdam Chamber of Industry and Commerce to provide future trainees, parents, teachers and companies with information on training in the Chamber of Industry and Commerce district and to convey the vacant apprenticeship positions in the state to interested young people.
The aim of the initiative is to make the vacant apprenticeship positions in the state of Brandenburg known to young people looking for apprenticeships and to find apprenticeships for them. In the catchment area of the IHK Potsdam, to which the state capital Potsdam, the city of Brandenburg an der Havel and the districts of Prignitz, Ostprignitz-Ruppin, Oberhavel, Havelland, Potsdam-Mittelmark and Teltow-Fläming belong, there were still 800 vacant apprenticeships for the 2015 training year to disposal. Those interested in training should be kept in Brandenburg through attractive offers in order to counteract the shortage of skilled workers.
Canoe Olympic champion Sebastian Brendel supported the “Do it in Brandenburg” initiative from 2012 to 2015.
