Hannes Hofbauer

Hannes Hofbauer (* 1955 in Vienna ) is an Austrian author , journalist and publisher . Since 1988 he has been working on the social, political and economic situation in Eastern Europe . Since the mid-1990s he has headed Promedia Verlag in Vienna.

Journalism and work

Hofbauer writes irregularly for the daily newspapers Neues Deutschland and Junge Welt , for the monthly magazine analyze & kritik and for the quarterly magazine Background . He is also a member of the editorial team of the monthly magazine Lunapark21 . He used to write for Konkret magazine .

Hofbauer works in the tradition of Fernand Braudel , André Gunder Frank and Immanuel Wallerstein - he is generally assigned to the anti-imperialist left .

According to Tariq Ali , he is "one of the leading progressive intellectuals in Austria" and directs the country's "apparently only left-wing publishing house".
