Hannes Meinhard

Hannes Meinhard (* 1937 in Dahlbruch ; † July 22, 2016 in Barsinghausen ) was a German sculptor and draftsman .

Meinhard did an apprenticeship as a locksmith and blacksmith from 1952 and then worked as a journeyman for two years. He then served in the Bundeswehr until 1967. He then began to study art, first until 1968 at the Werkkunstschule Wuppertal , then until 1972 at the Städelschule Frankfurt (painting with Johannes Schreiter , sculpture with Michael Croissant ). In 1970 he created the first iron sculptures.

From 1972 Meinhard worked as a freelance sculptor in Groß Elbe . The first attempts were made in 1973 with profile iron, in 1975 with sheet metal and steel plates, deformation using forging techniques. From 1978 he concentrated on fragmentary sculptures and assembly work. Meinhard worked with steel in assemblage and massive forging.

In 1979 Meinhard moved to Benthe / Hanover and in 1992 to Barsinghausen. In 2005 he moved into a new workshop and exhibition space in Bantorf near Hanover. He died on July 22, 2016 at the age of 79 in Barsinghausen and was given an honorary grave in the Barsinghausen forest cemetery.

In his work Meinhard stood in an international context with artists such as Alain Kirili , Mark Suvero and Bernhard Luginbühl (1929–2011). He was friends with Luginbühl and an artistic exchange took place. In his demeanor, he most closely resembled Dieter Roth (1930–1998), to whom Meinhard dedicated a sculpture in 1998 in memory.
