Hannes Tretter

Hannes Tretter (born July 5, 1951 in Vienna ) is an Austrian lawyer and human rights expert. He is associate professor for fundamental and human rights at the Institute for Constitutional and Administrative Law of the University of Vienna and scientific and administrative director of the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Human Rights (BIM) in Vienna, which he founded together with Felix Ermacora and Manfred Nowak in 1992 .

Act

In 1975 he received his doctorate at the University of Vienna in trade law and works, after a stopover at the Constitutional Court (Austria) ( 1976 - 1978 ), since 1978 at the University of Vienna. He is a member of the interdisciplinary research platform Human Rights in the European Context , which was founded in 2008 and in which scientists from several faculties have come together to advance the topic of human rights in teaching and research. He is also a lecturer at the Danube University Krems and the Modul University Vienna . Tretter is also a board member of the Austrian League for Human Rights . Between 2007 and 2012 he was Deputy Chairman (Vice Chairperson) of the Administrative Council of the EU Fundamental Rights Agency based in Vienna.

His main research areas include constitutional law , media law , data protection law , asylum law , and European and international law .

Tretter has published numerous writings so far. Among other things, he wrote the article on Article 3 of the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) in the Commentary on Austrian Federal Constitutional Law, edited by Karl Korinek and Michael Holoubek .
