Hanni El Khatib
Hanni El Khatib (born June 8, 1981 in San Francisco ) is an American singer-songwriter .
Life and music
El Khatib is of Palestinian and Filipino descent. He grew up in San Francisco where he became an avid skateboarder . On the side he started to make music and worked as creative director at the skateboard fashion label HUF. He now lives in Los Angeles .
In 2010, Khatib released two singles for the first time on Innovative Leisure, a subsidiary of Stones Throw Records . His debut album Will the Guns Come Out followed on September 27, 2011. It contains eight original songs and three cover songs . His second album Head in the Dirt was produced by Dan Auerbach of the Black Keys and released in 2013.
Influences of Khatib's musical style include garage rock , blues , doo wop and R&B . He describes his songs as "Knife Fight Music" ( English knife-fight music ) and says she "was shot for all the ever or have been approached ever by a train" ( English for anyone who has ever been shot or hit by a train ).
When performing live, he will be accompanied by drummer Ron Marinelli, bassist Adrian Rodriguez and guitarist and keyboardist Hayden Tobin. The band performed at the South-by-Southwest Festival in March 2011, the Bonnaroo Music Festival in June 2011, the Shaky Knees Festival in May 2013 and as the opening act for Florence and the Machine .
In popular culture
El Khatib's music has been used in numerous series including Suits , Hung , Californication , The Blacklist, and the BBC series Luther . The song Build. Destroy. Rebuild. was featured in the episode "Charity Case" of the series Dr. House uses the song You Rascal You in the trailer for the first season of Low Winter Sun , Family in the video game NHL 14 and I Got A Thing in the video game The Crew .
