Low Winter Sun is an American television series based on the British miniseries of the same name on Channel 4 . Mark Strong and Lennie James can be seen in the leading roles . The series premiered on August 11, 2013 on AMC .

Frank Agnew and Joe Geddes, two police officers in the city of Detroit , together murder a corrupt colleague. The two consider their act to be the perfect crime. However, this also sets in motion a process that changes your life forever.

AMC began developing the series in October 2011 . The station ordered the pilot episode for the series in May 2012. Chris Mundy was hired as showrunner and executive producer, and Ernest Dickerson as director. As in the British original, the role of Frank Agnew was cast with Mark Strong and the role of Damon Callis with James Ransone . After these commitments in July 2012 Ruben Santiago-Hudson , Athena Karkanis and Lennie James were committed in August , as well as Sprague Grayden and David Costabile . In September 2012 Erika Alexander was cast for a recurring role. In the same month filming of the pilot episode began in Detroit . In December, AMC ordered nine more episodes of the series, which were filmed in spring 2013.
The series began airing on August 11, 2013, following an episode of Breaking Bad . The episode was seen by 2.51 million viewers. The ratings of the series fell from week to week, so that the first season finale, which aired on October 6, 2013, was only seen by 0.63 million viewers. In December 2013 it was announced that the broadcaster AMC had discontinued the series after the first season.

In German-speaking countries, the series was first broadcast on the pay TV channel FOX from January 16 to March 20, 2014. On free TV, ZDFneo showed the series from February 4 to April 13, 2015, shortly after midnight.
