Hannibal Moltrecht

Hannibal Moltrecht (born October 21, 1812 in Leipzig ; † May 28, 1882 in Hamburg ) was a German technician and manufacturer .

Life

Hannibal Moltrecht came to Hamburg as a child with his mother, who was secondly married to the writer Leonhard Wächter . He completed a technical training in the workshop of Johann Georg Repsold . After his apprenticeship, he continued his training in various workshops, including that of Steinheil in Munich. He later founded a machine factory that traded under the name of H. Moltrecht & Co.

Together with syringe master Adolf Repsold , Moltrecht was involved in extinguishing the fire in Hamburg in May 1842 . In 1862 he went to England on behalf of the General-Feuer-Kassa , which was responsible for fire fighting in Hamburg at the time, to find out more about steam-powered fire engines . On his return he designed and built a steam syringe, which he demonstrated on December 29, 1863. The fire fund bought the machine, which was later shown at exhibitions.

Moltrecht was a member of the Hamburg Constituent Assembly . He was a member of the Hamburg citizenship from 1859 to 1862 and from 1868 to 1874 .

The Moltrechtweg in Hamburg-Alsterdorf was named after him.

In addition to his membership in the Hamburg citizenship (1859–1862 and 1868–1874) Moltrecht held other offices:

  • 1846 chair of the technical section of the Patriotic Society
  • 1846–1851 member of the library commission of the Patriotic Society
  • 1858 Appointment as master injector
  • 1871 Promotion to syringe master. In office until the introduction of the Hamburg professional fire brigade on November 12, 1872
  • 1871–1880 parish councilor of the Church of St. Katharinen
  • from 1875 sworn expert of the Chamber of Commerce
  • from 1876 sworn expert of the Chamber of Commerce for iron ships and machines
