history

Hannoverimpuls headquarters: The House of Economic Development

Hannoverimpuls was founded in 2003 as a joint project company of the city and region of Hanover. The original aim was to create 45,000 jobs in the Hanover region, which was hit by an economic crisis, within ten years. One of the first offers initiated was to provide IT companies with rent-free offices on the former Expo site in Hanover for one year . The prerequisite was the successful presentation of a business idea in the “Plug & Work” competition. “Startup-Impuls”, an annual ideas competition for those interested in founding a company, was also started in 2003.

The work of Hannoverimpuls initially concentrated on the five "focus sectors" automotive , information and communication technology , life sciences , optical technologies and production engineering . In the first two years since it was founded, the business development company was able to settle 1,400 new companies and create over 2,500 jobs. In 2006 Hannoverimpuls was one of the initiators of two country centers for foreign business contacts - the German-Russian Center for Technology Transfer (DRZT) and the German-Indian Business Center (GIBC).

In 2008 Hannoverimpuls founded the “Hannover Innovation Fund” (HIF) to provide outside capital for young high-tech companies. In 2011, Hannoverimpuls took over Hannover Holding for economic development, marketing and tourism and put the number of jobs created in 2009 at 3,934. The aim of the merger was to increase the transparency and efficiency of regional economic and tourism development, which was previously spread over seven companies . In 2013 Hannoverimpuls opened the Technologie Zentrum, a start-up center for technology companies.

organization

The shareholders of Hannoverimpuls are the city and the Hanover region with a share of 50 percent each. The 18-member supervisory board is made up of six representatives each from the regional assembly and the council of the state capital of Hanover as well as the Hanoverian economy. The chairmanship of the supervisory board changes every two years between the mayor of the city of Hanover and the regional president. The company's managing director is Adolf M. Kopp.

Fields of action

The focus of the activities is on the four declared fields of action “Energy and Mobility”, “Digital Economy and Production Technology”, “Life Sciences and Medical Technology” and “Creative Industries and Multimedia”. The task of Hannoverimpuls is to advise, promote and network start-up, settlement and innovation projects. In addition, the business development agency is supposed to build national and international business relationships and strengthen the initiatives of regional actors in business and science. To this end, Hannoverimpuls promotes regional networks between science, companies and founders and enables small and medium-sized companies to participate in trade fairs.

Digital economy and production technology

In order to give impetus to the digitization of production processes, the business development agency says it works with the Leibniz University of Hanover , the HannoverIT network and the Hanover Production Technology Center (PZH) , among others . In addition, Hannoverimpuls offers young companies in this field of activity office and workshop space in the technology center.

Energy and mobility

Hannoverimpuls promotes business start-ups, the networking of academic and industrial partners as well as the development of international markets in the field of "energy and mobility". According to Hannoverimpuls, these include CO 2 -free energy supply, energy saving, the automotive industry and vehicle development. The business development agency's partners are universities and research centers in the region. The Hannover Region and Hannoverimpuls have been funding a university project on robotics with a total of 400,000 euros annually since 2017.

Creative industries and multimedia

Hannoverimpuls has set itself the goal of networking and supporting around 4,100 companies in the cultural and creative industries in Hannover. In this field of activity, the business development agency defines twelve sub-markets. The Kre | h | tiv branch network emerged in 2011 from an initiative by Hannoverimpuls.

Life sciences and medical technology

In the field of "Life Sciences and Medical Technology", Hannoverimpuls cooperates with university and non-university research institutions, including the Hannover Medical School , the Leibniz University and the Hannover Veterinary University . One of the goals of business development is to strengthen the networks between science and companies and to promote innovations.

Support for companies and start-ups

consultation

Hannoverimpuls is the point of contact for companies and those interested in founding a company in the city and region of Hanover, offers advice and organizes workshops and seminars. The range of services also includes providing support for specific target groups such as women ( founders-Consult ) or people with a migration background ( foundation Intercultural ). The share of intercultural start-ups in all companies advised was almost 16 percent in 2016. Over 2000 consultations are carried out annually.

The start-up service starting business , which is supported by Hannoverimpuls and the Leibniz University Hannover, offers students advice on start-up projects and the development of business ideas.

Start-up competitions

Hannoverimpuls wants to offer incentives for the development and implementation of marketable business ideas with various competitions. As part of the “Plug & Work” settlement competition, companies that set up in Hanover or want to relocate to Hanover will be awarded for their business concepts. The ideas and start-up competition “Startup-Impuls” by Hannoverimpuls and Sparkasse Hannover , endowed with a total of 100,000 euros, promotes business ideas that are then to be implemented in the Hannover area. According to Hannoverimpuls, this competition created over 3,000 jobs by 2016. The "Drei | v" competition is aimed at start-ups in the creative industries and is intended to support companies in developing economic know-how.

Office and work space

Startups and young companies can find office, laboratory and workshop space in two centers with different branches of industry. The hall 96 in the district Linden-South has 50 offices and seven workshops for companies and projects in the creative industries. The technology center in the science and technology park in Hanover-Marienwerder has 80 offices, eleven workshops and ten laboratories for sales, research and development. It is aimed at companies from the industries and fields of application of production engineering and optical technologies. In 2016, more than 85 percent of both centers were occupied.

In 2016 Hannoverimpuls closed the start-up center “Camp Media” after the hoped-for spin-offs of Hanoverian educational institutions had not materialized. In mid-2017, the business development agency took over the Hanover Entrepreneurship Center , in which 32 companies founded by women are based.

financing

Hannoverimpuls supports companies such as those interested in founding a company in the search for funding opportunities and in creating a financing strategy. In addition, the business development company has the "Invest-Impuls" fund, which has a capital of 27.4 million euros and is made up of the Hannover Innovation Fund (HIF) and the Hannover Beteiligungsfonds (HBF). Young technology companies can receive up to 1.5 million euros in equity capital from this fund, provided they can find a co-investor. Hannoverimpuls also used the HIF to fund the “Venture Villa” start-up center, which opened in 2016 and was looking for further investors in mid-2017.

internationalization

The business development company is internationally active and offers companies from abroad assistance in expanding their business activities in the Hanover region and, conversely, Hanoverian companies with a commitment abroad.

With the help of the Promap (Product Market Analysis and Placement) program, companies can develop a market and product strategy in order to prepare for their expansion. The Gems (German Marketing & Sales Solutions) program is aimed at foreign companies. It includes a takeover of sales activities by German partners. Country centers such as the German-Russian Center for Technology Transfer (DRZT) and the German-Indian Business Center (GIBC) support foreign companies in the implementation of business ideas and the establishment in the Hanover region.

In order to promote the expansion of Hanoverian companies abroad, Hannoverimpuls cooperates in a network with the Hanover Chamber of Commerce and Industry , the Sparkasse Hanover, the NBank and the Deutsche Messe AG .
