Władysław Hasior (born May 14, 1928 in Nowy Sącz , † July 14, 1999 in Kraków ) was a Polish sculptor, painter and set designer.

Life

Hasior learned artistic woodworking at the State Lyceum of Artistic Techniques in Zakopane with Antoni Kenar (1906–1959). He then began studying at the sculpture faculty of the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw with Marian Wnuk . As a thesis, he created the twelve passion scenes for the parish church in Nowy Sącz. After studying in Warsaw, he returned to Zakopane and became a professional teacher with Antoni Kenar.

Since 1957 he has participated in art exhibitions in Paris , Rome , Stockholm , Oslo , Montevideo , São Paulo , Helsinki , Vienna , Venice , Copenhagen , Brussels and Moscow .

In 1959 he received a grant from the French Ministry of Culture and studied with Ossip Zadkine in Paris .

1960–1965 he created figurative sculptures: "Niobe", "The Guest", "The Spy", "The Interrogation of an Angel". Then he devoted himself to abstract sculpture. He often used waste materials, misappropriated objects that he put together to assemblages . In the middle of the landscape he placed huge constructions, often declared as monuments. He saw fire, water and sound as elements of these sculptures. In the case of the "organs" near Czorsztyn, Hasior planned the installation of organ pipes, which should produce whistling sounds in the wind, but the idea was not realized.

In 1984 the collection of Hasior's works was established in Zakopane in the former tuberculosis hospital. In 1999 he received an honorary doctorate from the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdansk.
