Hanns Abele

Hanns Abele (* 23. December 1941 in Vienna , † 27. July 2016 ibid ) was an Austrian jurist and university professor of economics .

Life

Hanns Abele grew up in modest circumstances in the 15th district of Vienna . He attended elementary school from 1947 to 1951 and then the Bundesrealgymnasium Vienna 7 , where he graduated with excellent results in 1959 . He then studied law at the University of Vienna and received his doctorate in 1963. iur. He then did a legal internship for a short time , but broke off the court year to accept a position as an assistant at the Institute for Economics at the University of Vienna.

In 1973, Hanns Abele was appointed full professor of theoretical economics at the University of Friborg (Switzerland) , where he worked successfully as a representative of the law, economics and social science faculties in reforming the university status. Finally, in 1977 he accepted an appointment as full professor of economics (political economy) at the Vienna University of Economics and Business , to which he remained after his retirement in 2010 until his death.

Research activity

Abele's research focused on money , growth , distribution , industrial economics , and economic policy . The research tradition of the Austrian School of Economics shaped his basic understanding of economics. His musical disposition and his humanistic attitude also led to work on culture and the media as well as to collaboration with representatives of theology . In succession to Florian Fleck, he was a member of the Friborg Working Group for the Economy of Broadcasting (FAR) together with Hermann Fünfgeld , Peter Voss and Antonio Riva .

Publications

Abele's publications include both model-based, formally correct theories and application-oriented studies with concrete and easily communicable results and judgments. His intensive contacts with a large number of top international economists were reflected in both research and teaching. Abele tried again and again in teaching to update the economics study programs in the interests of the students and to raise them to an international level.
