Walter Kerber SJ (born March 28, 1926 in Karlsruhe , † February 26, 2006 in Unterhaching , district of Munich ) was a German social ethicist and Catholic theologian .

Life

Walter Kerber joined the Jesuit order after the end of the Second World War in 1945 . Kerber studied at the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg in Freiburg im Breisgau and the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome . He received his doctorate in 1966 in Freiburg with his thesis "The Distribution Theory of Kenneth E. Boulding" at the Faculty of Law and Political Science. rer. pole. PhD , later also a Dr. phil.

In 1967 he was appointed to the Chair for Ethics and Social Sciences at the Jesuit School of Philosophy Munich appointed . Linked to this was the management of the Institute for Social Policy. In addition, from 1984 to 1995 he headed the research and study project of the Rottendorf Foundation "Questions about a new world culture."

In addition to teaching the philosophical subjects “general ethics” and “social ethics”, his primary interest was Catholic social teaching , whose ability to innovate he wanted to demonstrate. In lectures, panel discussions and publications and as a member of many scientific and church organizations, he faced current ethical questions.

Kerber died as a result of a long-standing Parkinson's disease .
