Hans-Albers-Platz

The Hans-Albers-Platz is a public space in the Hamburg district of St. Pauli , the south of Friedrichstrasse and north of the Reeperbahn is limited. Around the square there are residential buildings , some from the 19th century, and many restaurants , bars and hotels on their ground floors .

The square was originally called Wilhelms-Platz and was renamed in 1964, four years after the death of the popular folk film actor Hans Albers , whose films often traced the surrounding milieu . Occasionally the place is also called "Kleiner Kiez". Since 1986 there has been a three-meter-high bronze statue created by Jörg Immendorff with the mimic-like film character of the actor with his boatman's piano in the middle of the square.

The course is part of the red light district of St. Pauli and, as such, from 20 am for the prostitution or the Kobern released. The square is surrounded by pubs, bars and restaurants, including the Hans-Albers-Eck , The Academy , the Irish Pub Molly Malone, Frieda B. and the DrunkenLama , some of which also have outdoor restaurants . The square is a popular filming location for television series and feature films such as the dance and mood venue Große Freiheit No. 7 (1944) , Auf der Reeperbahn at half past twelve (1954) and The Heart of St. Pauli (1957) . Due to its exposed location, the square is repeatedly the scene of disputes and criminal offenses.

Monument protection

The houses at Hans-Albers-Platz 14, 15, 15a, 15b, 16, 17, 18 and 20, built around 1830, are listed according to the list of cultural monuments in Hamburg-St. Pauli under the ensemble ID number 30052 or the individual numbers 14756–14757 and 12957 to 12959.
