Hans-Georg Behr

Hans-Georg Behr (* 1937 in Vienna ; † July 8, 2010 in Hamburg ) was an Austrian journalist and non-fiction author.

Life

After attending the Abbey High School in Melk , Behr studied medicine, psychology and history. At first he worked on various therapeutic projects. As a journalist, he wrote especially for magazines such as Der Spiegel , Die Zeit , Stern , GEO , TransAtlantik and Kursbuch . Since 1955 he has traveled extensively to the Near and Far East ; For a long time he lived in Kathmandu , where he was adopted. He supported the biological son of his adoptive parents with his studies in Europe and encouraged them to donate a Ganesh shrine to his adoptive brother's medical exam . In 1990 the Hamburg Horticultural Office allowed the construction of a shrine a little over two meters high for the Nepalese elephant god. Since then, it has been on the so-called Schinkelplatz (corner of Schinkelstrasse / Peter-Marquard-Strasse) in Hamburg-Winterhude .

In addition to reporting on the countries he visited, Hans-Georg Behr worked a lot on the topics of drug trafficking and organized crime . As an avowed consumer, Behr advocated the decriminalization of or a more relaxed approach to cannabis . He last lived in Hamburg.
