Hans-Georg Marquardt

Hans-Georg Marquardt (born July 1, 1927 in Stettin ; † August 23, 2013 ) was a German politician ( SPD ). He was a political prisoner in the GDR and fled to the West in 1956. From 1983 to 1984 and from 1994 to 1998 he was a member of the city ​​council in Langenfeld.

Life

After the end of the war, Hans Marquardt moved to Putbus on the island of Rügen . There he was trained as a teacher. The village school in Ralswiek on Rügen was his first school job. On February 1, 1946, Marquardt joined the SPD. Due to the forced unification of the KPD and SPD on April 21, he involuntarily became a member of the SED . The school board of Rügen sent him to Stralsund on the course "Russian for teachers." At the University of Greifswald , he studied Slavic and German.

He attracted attention because of his free thinking and was spied on by the university party leadership of the SED. It was considered politically "unreliable" and had to prove itself in production. Marquardt went to Aue in Saxony and worked in uranium ore mining for six months . Then he wanted to continue studying in Leipzig and get married beforehand. But on the wedding day he was arrested. For almost six months he was in solitary confinement in the cellar of the Stasi in Chemnitz , his hands and feet handcuffed. There he was tortured. Because he did not sign the protocols, he was additionally beaten and beaten with iron bars and locked in a wet room several times. Pretrial detention in Zwickau was for another six months . There he was sentenced on January 7, 1952 to eight years in prison and not counting the time of pre-trial detention (one year). Marquardt did not agree to the reasons for the verdict, " Boycott , hatred of peoples, ...". He spent almost six years in the Zwickau, Waldheim and Torgau prisons. On October 31, 1956, Marquardt fled to the west.

On July 24, 1991 the Senate for Cassation Matters of the Leipzig District Court decided: “The judgment of the Zwickau District Court is overturned. The convicted person will be acquitted. Hans Marquardt was a member of the city council in Langenfeld from 1983 to 1984 and from 1994 to 1998. For years he worked for the party as an educational chairman. Since 1980 he has been chairman of the Federation of Democratic Resistance Fighters in North Rhine-Westphalia and a member of the board of the Central Association of Persecuted Organizations in Berlin. He belongs to the working group of former political prisoners in the Federal Party Executive of the SPD. On March 11, 1999, Marquardt was presented with the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon by District President Jürgen Büssow .
