Hans-Heinrich Reuter

Hans-Heinrich Reuter (* 26. May 1923 in Pirna , † thirtieth March 1978 in Weimar ) was a German Germanist and literary scholar .

Life

The son of a district court advisor studied German , history , classical philology and philosophy at the Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität in Berlin from 1942 to 1944 . Before completing his studies, he was drafted into military service. Shortly before the end of the Second World War , he was released from the Wehrmacht in March 1945 in the Zwickau reserve hospital because of unfit for military service .

After the war, Reuter continued his studies and passed the first and second teaching exams in 1947 . After completing his studies, he taught German, history, Greek and Latin at the Gerhart-Hauptmann-Schule in Zwickau until he temporarily took over a teaching position for German literature at the Pedagogical Institute in Leipzig in 1954 . He held this position until 1958. When he started teaching, he finally turned to literary studies, having published in daily newspapers, specialist journals and literary periodicals since 1951.

Theodor Fontane played a major role in his scientific work . His first publication on Fontane was a review of his novel Before the Storm . In addition, Reuter dealt with the German literature of the 18th century and the Weimar Classic . On July 22, 1957, he submitted his dissertation Otto Ludwig as a narrator to the Philosophical Faculty of the Friedrich Schiller University Jena . Its epic possibilities. in front.

Reuter increasingly worked as an editor, u. a. for volumes 13 to 15 of the “Berlin Edition” of Goethe's works. From 1967 to 1972 Reuter was director of the Institute for German Literature of the National Research and Memorial Centers for Classical German Literature in Weimar. Until his death he worked with Werner Rieck on the 6th volume of the compendium History of German Literature , which was published in October 1979.

From 1964 Reuter worked as an unofficial employee (IM) "Giesshübler" for the HA XX of the MfS, district administration Erfurt (BStU Erfurt, Az. 542/78 vol. 1 and 2).

Awards

Hans-Heinrich Reuter was awarded the West Berlin Fontane Prize in 1972.
