VW corruption affair

In October 2005, in connection with the VW corruption affair, Uhl came under suspicion of aiding and abetting embezzlement. He is said to have participated in pleasure trips financed by Volkswagen. The Bundestag lifted his immunity in December 2006 , clearing the way for the indictment. According to the daily newspaper Die Welt , the Braunschweig public prosecutor confirmed the initial suspicion. Uhl is said to have used the services of prostitutes at Volkswagen's expense in ten cases between the end of 1999 and the end of 2005 . He is also charged with several false affidavits . According to witness reports, Uhl is said to have been present at various sex parties in Europe and Asia.

Thereupon various parliamentary colleagues urged Uhl to suspend his mandate . On May 29, 2007, Uhl announced that he would resign from the Bundestag because the affidavits he had given were largely false and left the Bundestag on June 1, 2007. On June 4, 2007, he also resigned from the SPD, thus preventing a party from being expelled . It had become clear to him that he could no longer incriminate his party with his misconduct.

On June 14, 2007, the Wolfsburg District Court sentenced Uhl to a fine of 280 daily rates , which corresponds to his income of 39,200 euros. At the trial, he had confessed to visits to brothels at Volkswagen's expense and the submission of untrue affidavits.
