Hans-Jürgen Zimmermann (* 1942 in Goslin near Posen ) was Mayor of Ludwigslust from 1990 to 2009 .

Hans-Jürgen Zimmermann has lived in the former Ludwigslust district since 1948 and in the city of Ludwigslust since 1967 . In 1961 he graduated from high school in Boizenburg and then studied agriculture in Rostock . From 1967 to 1990 he was active in the district agriculture council, in the agricultural-industrial association Lewitz , in the LPG Weselsdorf and other agricultural agencies.

During this time he was active in the church convention work of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mecklenburg under the direction of Pastor Joachim Gauck , and campaigned for better consumer protection as well as for landscape and nature conservation . In 1989 Zimmermann co-founded the citizens 'movement Neues Forum in Ludwigslust and represented the citizens' movement at the district's round table .

In the first free local elections in the GDR on May 6, 1990, he was elected mayor of the city of Ludwigslust with the support of the SPD , CDU and FDP . He remained mayor until he did not run again in 2009.

Zimmermann was a member of the district council for Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen from 1990 to 1999 . Besides, he was also a board member of Towns and Municipalities day Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and member of the study commission of the Diet "Sustainable communities".

Hans-Jürgen Zimmermann is married and has three children and six grandchildren.
