Hans-Joachim Baeuchle (born April 15, 1922 in Freiburg im Breisgau ; † November 11, 2007 in Hinterzarten ) was a German politician ( SPD ).

Life

Hans-Joachim Baeuchle, who was a Roman Catholic , graduated from high school in 1940 and took part in the Second World War from 1941 after completing the Reich Labor Service . After his release from captivity in 1946, he completed a degree in law and political science and then worked for several district offices. After retiring from politics, he and his wife ran the family-owned bookstore in Hinterzarten until 1993, which is now run by his daughter. In 1957 articles written by him appeared in the writings of the Hohenzollern History Association.

politics

Baeuchle joined the NSDAP in 1940 ( membership number 7,826,066). From 1946 he belonged to the SPD . From 1951 to 1961 he was mayor of Haigerloch and then until 1974 mayor of the city of Schelklingen . From 1959 he was a member of the Hohenzollern Communal Parliament in Sigmaringen. From 1965 he belonged to the district council of the district of Ehingen . In 1969 he was elected to the German Bundestag via the state list of the SPD Baden-Württemberg . The electoral term ended one year earlier than planned by early elections in September 1972. In addition, he was ÖTV and SPD district chairman, supervisory board member in various municipal companies and a court jury member.

Steiner-Wienand affair

After leaving the Bundestag in 1973, he was a key witness in the committee of inquiry into the Steiner-Wienand affair . On April 28, a meeting between the CDU member Julius Steiner , with whom Baeuchle sat for a long time in the Hechinger district assembly , and the manager of the SPD parliamentary group Karl Wienand had taken place in his house. A payment of DM 50,000 to Steiner and his abstention in the no-confidence vote against Willy Brandt was initiated four weeks later. Although Baeuchle was not there all the time, he did testify that the terms of payment and the “value” of a parliamentary mandate in general were discussed. Baeuchle himself stated that he wanted to help save the Eastern Treaty with this arranged meeting .

Deselection

In Schelklingen, attempts were then made to vote Baeuchle out as mayor. The local council was ready to merge with the neighboring community to the detriment of the city instead of incorporating it into a congregation in order to force a new election. Baeuchle had to run as a non-party candidate because his SPD parliamentary group supported the CDU candidate. During the election campaign, many allegations were made in a campaign against which he successfully took legal action. The Ulm public prosecutor's office found “no criminal behavior”, but he lost the 1974 mayoral election.
