Hans-Joachim Krahnen

Hans-Joachim Krahnen (born August 9, 1916 in Berlin ; † September 23, 2015 in Oberursel ) was a German private banker .

Life

Hans-Joachim Krahnen completed a banking apprenticeship at Deutsche Bank in 1935 . After military service, he initially returned to Deutsche Bank in 1946 and, after completing a degree in economics and receiving his doctorate at the University of Cologne in 1951, worked for the KfW Reconstruction Loan Corporation from 1950 . In 1952 he moved back to Deutsche Bank, where he was a member of the board of directors. From 1961 to 1981 Krahnen was a personally liable partner of the Bethmann Bank in Frankfurt am Main and managed it together with Johann Philipp Freiherr von Bethmann .

Krahnen has long been involved as a lecturer at various German universities. In 1970 he was appointed honorary professor at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main .

He held numerous supervisory and advisory board mandates, such as at Cosmos Bank, Steigenberger Hotelgesellschaft and Allgemeine Kapitalunion. He volunteered, for example, for the Federal Association of German Banks and the Working Group of Self-Employed Entrepreneurs (today Die Familienunternehmer - ASU ). From 1971 to 1982 he was Chairman of the Board of Management of the Bankakademie (since 2007: Frankfurt School of Finance & Management ) and from 1981 to 1985 Scientific Director and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Bankakademie.

Since 1975 he has been involved in the Rotary Club Bad Homburg and in 1981 co-founded the Rotary Club Kronberg-Oberursel.

He was a founding member of the Market Economy Foundation and its founding board. He was a co-founder of the DIY chain OBI and the Robinson Clubs and played an important role in the introduction of works councils in German companies. In addition, Krahnen was Honorary Consul for Pakistan in Hesse , Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland .
