Hans-Joachim Marx (composer)
Hans-Joachim Marx (born July 18, 1923 in Anklam ; † August 27, 2010 in Flensburg ) was a German composer and conductor .
Life
Hans-Joachim Marx was born in Anklam (Western Pomerania) in 1923 and grew up in Stralsund . At the age of 18 he enrolled at the Berlin Music Academy , but was drafted into military service during his first semester and was later taken prisoner by the Soviets. In 1948, Marx began studying at the Rostock University of Music . Here he was instructed in composition by Rudolf Wagner-Régeny , in conducting by Heinz Röttger and in piano playing by CA Marthienssen. In 1950 he got a job as Kapellmeister at the Rostock Theater , but left the GDR in 1958 for political reasons and became music director of the Schleswig-Holstein state theaters . From 1976 to 1988 he was a music teacher at the old grammar school in Flensburg and for the 1990/91 season he was the musical director of the Stralsund Theater .
