Hans-Joachim Schulz

Hans-Joachim Schulz (born February 18, 1932 in Berlin ) is a Catholic priest, liturgical scholar and Eastern church scholar .

Life

Schulz studied in Rome theology , received in 1956 in Aachen, the priesthood , and went after to Innsbruck where he was taught by Karl Rahner and Josef Andreas Jungmann received his doctorate in 1958th Until 1961 he worked as a pastor in the diocese of Aachen .

His habilitation took place in 1964 at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster for the subjects of liturgical science and theology of the Eastern Churches . Then Schulz taught at the Theological University in Königstein im Taunus and from 1968 to 1978 as professor for liturgical science at the Ruhr University in Bochum . In 1978 he took over the chair for the history and theology of the Christian East at the University of Würzburg .

He was also involved in the advisory board of the Johann Adam Möhler Institute in Paderborn and as a consultor for the Pro Oriente Society in Vienna.

Focus

The focus of his academic work is the history of tradition, especially in the East, in the areas of liturgy and church teaching.

Memberships

For many years he was also a member of the Ecumenical Commission and the Catholic-Orthodox Commission of the German Bishops' Conference .

Honors

For his work on the history of the Byzantine liturgy in 1992 that gave him Pontifical Oriental Institute in Rome , the honorary doctorate .
