Hans-Joachim Wagner (born January 31, 1955 in Essen ) is a former German soccer player .

Career

Hans-Joachim Wagner's career began in his youth at the Essen club Kray 09 . He later moved to the youth department of FC Schalke 04 .

In 1974 he moved from the Schalke A-Jugend to local rivals Borussia Dortmund , who had signed other young players like Lothar Huber and Mirko Votava . At that time a member of the newly formed 2nd Bundesliga , he was finally fast-team regular and rose in the 1975/76 season with Borussia - after two relegation games against 1. FC Nuremberg - in the Bundesliga on. In the top German division, he played 149 games for Borussia, in which he scored six goals and witnessed the 0:12 against Borussia Mönchengladbach .
