Hans-Joachim von Stumpfeld

Hans-Joachim von Stumpfeld (born May 7, 1881 in Weissenfels , † May 26, 1968 in Hamburg ) was a German officer , most recently lieutenant general in the Wehrmacht .

Life

Hans-Joachim von Stumpfeld joined the army in early 1901 and was promoted to lieutenant in the field artillery regiment 24 in 1902 . At the beginning of 1933 he was removed from the Reichsheer as a colonel .

On January 3, 1939, he was appointed commander of Military District X (Hamburg). From September 1939 to February 1940 he was in command of the 225 Artillery Regiment in the 225th Infantry Division . In October 1940, he was now major general , and was in command of the 6th Infantry Division for two days . He then followed Kurt Herzog for almost three years as artillery commander 108 (Arko 108). Among his group were u. a. the headquarters of the 3rd Army , the 403rd Security Division and the 213rd Infantry Division united and fought on the Eastern Front . Von Stumpfeld's group was assigned to Army Group Don . Under his command, the Stumpfeld infantry division named after him fought in Stalingrad from December 1942 to February 1943 . At the end of May 1943 he was retired from the Wehrmacht.

He was married to Anna-Luise von Raven (* 1897) since 1919.
