Hans-Jochen Gamm

Hans-Jochen Gamm , (born January 22, 1925 in Jörnstorf , Mecklenburg ; † June 18, 2011 ) was a German educationalist .

Life

After graduating from high school, Gamm was drafted for the war and returned from Polish captivity in 1949. Gamm studied pedagogy , social psychology , history and theology at the universities of Rostock and Hamburg, was a teacher and his doctorate with Wilhelm Flitner Dr. phil. In 1959 he became a lecturer at the Pedagogical Institute of the University of Hamburg , and in 1961 professor at the Pedagogical University of Oldenburg . In 1967 he was offered a position at the Technical University of Darmstadt , where he continued to do research and teaching after his retirement. With the reunification he became a visiting professor at the University of Rostock .

Focus of work

Gamm began his journalistic activities with religious pedagogical writings (expertise on biblical history), with publications on anti-Semitism (Judaism) and was one of the first to undertake a systematic appraisal of education under National Socialism ("führung und Verführung "1964). He published on peace education (aggression and the ability to achieve peace in Germany) and on political education ("German identity in Europe"). His pamphlet “Critical School”, which dealt with the emancipation of teachers and students, was the subject of heated discussion. Gamm was concerned with the relationship between poetry and pedagogy (Das pedagogical legacy of Goethe ; Friedrich Nietzsche ) as well as dealing with questions of sex education (Balance of Sex Education, with Friedrich Koch ). In his late work, Gamm addressed the socio-historical problems of his native Mecklenburg and updated aspects of the work of Johann Amos Comenius for the current debate.
